WHAT IS KFO?

King Family Orbit

78 County Road 112 S.
Mosca, CO 81146

KFO is a dark-sky sanctuary and event center in the San Luis Valley of Colorado — 320 acres of remote desert operated in accordance with DarkSky-recognized lighting guidelines to protect the natural night.

Bortle 2 Skies — One of the darkest night skies in North America, free from glare, skyglow, and intrusive lighting.
Sacred Site — The KFO Listening Stones are the founding sacred site of the King Family Orbit, established during the Summer Solstice of 2026 by the King family as the first phase of the future Pü̈ǘ Tam'Ava Kiva. Built upon a seven-pointed geometry and intentionally placed where multiple independent observers sensed unusual natural qualities, the Listening Stones are dedicated to observation, gratitude, stewardship, and a deeper relationship with the land. They are not intended to tell visitors what to believe, but to encourage stillness, curiosity, and careful attention to the natural world. The site honors the sky above, the waters below, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east, and the generations of people who have called the San Luis Valley home.

Visitors are invited to slow down, walk the circle with intention, and simply listen. Some may find the experience peaceful and grounding. Others may discover a renewed sense of wonder, clarity, reflection, or connection with the surrounding landscape. The Listening Stones ask no one to accept a particular belief. Instead, they offer a place where silence, geometry, nature, and human intention meet, allowing each person to encounter the site in their own way. As the first chapter in a century-long vision for KFO, the Listening Stones stand as a reminder that wisdom begins not with certainty, but with the willingness to observe, to ask, and to listen.
Event Center Rentals — Host private retreats, weddings, film shoots, conferences, and gatherings — fully off-grid and Leave-No-Trace.
Signature Events — Attend the Colorado Star Party, Sound and Stillness Festival, and other programs devoted to astronomy, metaphysics, and consciousness.
Near the Sand Dunes — Located 10 miles north of Alamosa and 30 minutes from Great Sand Dunes National Park.
